Frequently asked questions

The questions we receive most about analysis, shipping samples and reports.

Does Ignius identify minerals, colored stones, diamonds or jewelry from photos or videos?
No. Identifying minerals, colored stones, diamonds and jewelry requires specific laboratory techniques and instruments, so the service is performed in person or after the item is shipped to us. In some cases, however, we can quote the service from a photo or video — simply fill in our form.
How do I ship samples for analysis?
Protect the material, declare an insured value you consider appropriate and ship it to the Ignius address through a carrier (Correios, DHL, FedEx etc.). After shipping, please share the tracking code so we can follow the parcel. Once the analysis and requested service are complete, Ignius ships the item to the destination indicated by the client.
Can I be served somewhere other than the laboratory?
Yes. If you cannot come to us, we go to you. We have modern instruments and a portable laboratory to serve clients anywhere in Brazil, with exclusive private appointments at mining sites, jewelry stores, banks or during business trips.
Does Ignius issue appraisal documents stating market values for parcels, gems or jewelry?
No. However, in specific (legal) cases we provide consultancy and technical assistance for inventory and asset surveys.
Does Ignius trade gemstones?
No. We work exclusively with laboratory services: analysis, identification and certification of gem materials.
Does Ignius analyse any kind of mineral sample, rock or metal?
No. We only work with materials of gemological potential.
