Analysis

The analysis and identification of gem materials and jewelry can be delivered verbally, without an authenticity report. Clients are welcome to follow the entire process in person and are responsible for bringing the samples to us.

If you cannot attend in person, the analytical process can be followed by video call; in that case samples are shipped to our laboratory by carrier.

Once the analytical process is complete, and if the client wishes, we move on to the next step: certifying the material and issuing the gemological authenticity report.

Clients therefore decide whether to add further value to the analysis by requesting documentation. For diamonds, in addition to analysis and identification, we also offer colour/clarity grading.

Main services

Gem minerals under analysis

Gem minerals

We analyse gem minerals in rough, pre-formed (before cutting) and collection-grade samples. The analysis identifies the mineral based on its mineralogical properties, using portable and advanced instruments that provide accuracy and speed.

Colored stones analysed at Ignius

Colored stones

Identification of colored stones involves the full analytical routine with gemological instruments (refractometer, hydrostatic balance, microscope, spectrometers and others) to determine the nature of the material: natural, synthetic or imitation. We also observe inclusions, define colour and, where possible, indicate the type of treatment and geographic origin.

Diamond grading with a loupe

Diamond grading

Identifying, grading and appraising diamonds demands experience, precision and patience. Our reports follow the standards set by the world's most renowned laboratories, using the grading system developed by GIA: colour, clarity, table and depth percentages and plotting of the main inclusions.

Identification of gems mounted in jewelry

Gems mounted in jewelry

A description of the analysed piece (ring, earrings, necklaces and other items) and of the gems it contains. We analyse the type of metal (gold, silver or platinum) and the colored stones or diamonds present, verifying authenticity. The gems go through identification and grading, with estimated colour, clarity, weight and measurements.

Gemological report issued by Ignius

Report issuing

Our gemological authenticity reports are a reference throughout Brazil. We offer bilingual documents (Portuguese or English) with verification codes and QR Code for greater security and portability, prepared for gem minerals, museum collection samples, individual gems, parcels, diamonds and jewelry. We also offer customised reports for jewelry brands.

Paraíba tourmaline analysed at Ignius

Paraíba tourmaline

We are the gemological laboratory with the highest volume of Paraíba tourmaline analyses and reports in Latin America. Analyses use advanced instruments; to detect the elements that define Paraíba tourmaline we use UV-VIS-NIR spectrometers. Reports follow the standards set by LMHC (The Laboratory Manual Harmonisation Committee).
